DESCRIPTION: \n\nLink to Presentations\n\nProgramme\n\nPlease note that t
he organisers will arrange accommodation for two nights and travel from SA
national airports to Cape Town international airport for participants out
side of Cape Town. The organisers will communicate directly with these del
 egates\n\nOverview\n\nThe European Spallation Source (https://europeanspal
 lationsource.se/ ) under construction in Lund\, Sweden\, is a partnership
of countries committed to the goal of building and operating the world lea
ding facility for research using neutrons. The European Spallation Source
(ESS) facility's unique capabilities will both greatly exceed and compleme
nt those of today's leading neutron sources\, enabling new opportunities f
or researchers across the spectrum of scientific discovery\, including mat
erials and life sciences\, energy\, environmental technology\, cultural he
ritage and fundamental physics. BrightnESS² (https://brightness.esss.se/
) is an integrated program in support of long-term sustainability of ESS\,
its community\, and the network of neutron sources in Europe. To emphasiz
e the importance of access to global infrastructure and global networking
of which the BrightnESS2 program provide\, the South African consortium un
der the leadership of DST (https://www.dst.gov.za/ ) is exploring options
to participate in this program.  \n\nSouth African interest in contributi
ng in the BrightnESS² program stems from the fact that it has a long hist
ory of research using neutrons provided by the two key national facilities
 \, NRF/iThemba LABS (https://tlabs.ac.za/ ) and Necsa (http://www.necsa.co
.za/ ). Given the focus areas in these facilities\, there is always a need
for SA researchers to have access to other neutron facilities that can pr
ovide alternatives or enhanced capabilities. \n\nThis planned 2 day worksh
op is by DST Invitation only.  It is aimed at South African based resear
chers who are interested in exploring the possibility of using the ESS fac
 ilities in the future.\n\n\n\nhttps://indico.tlabs.ac.za/event/89/
