In this talk, I will briefly review the current status of the world average of the strong coupling constant, as reported by the Particle Data Group. I will then focus on determinations from event shapes and jet rates measured at lepton colliders, highlighting the key outstanding challenges in these measurements and recent developments aimed at resolving them.
