Description
Lattice QCD predicts that at sufficiently large energy density a transition to a medium with deconfined quarks and gluons occurs - a Quark-Gluon Plasma is created. The talk gives an introduction to the study of high-density Quantum Chromodynamics using ultrarelativistic heavy-ion and proton beams. The main observables and results are introduced which allow to detect and characterize this Quark-Gluon Plasma. An overview of the findings based on LHC Run 2 data is given and open questions which are addressed with data recorded in the just finished LHC Run 3 are presented. Highlights from Run 3 including the recent light-ion run are showcased in order to give the audience the basis to put the related talks during the conference in a broader context.
