RARE ION BEAM PROJECT 2011 On the 15th and 16th of September 2011, a Workshop, hosted by iThemba LABS, was held to discuss (in detail) the long range plan involving the use of Rare Isotope Beams for Nuclear Physics and Advanced Material Science Research. Paramount among the objectives is the acquisition of a 70 MeV cyclotron that will serve a dual purpose of being a driver for Rare Isotope Beams and production of Radio Isotopes for cost recovery and support to the Nuclear Medicine Community. The following signatories support this project and see it as vital in ensuring the necessary capacity in South Africa for the rapidly expanding nuclear industries and related technologies.
