Workshop has been postponed until further notice

Due to timing conflicts with other competing International Physics events and very low registration numbers so far, the planned workshop on Low-Energy Nuclear Astrophysics at Tandem Accelerator Mass Spectrometer (TAMS) Laboratory for 26-27 November 2023, is hereby postponed till further notice. We apologise for any inconveniences and updates on the future plans will be communicated in the new year.”

iThemba LABS is organising a workshop on Low-Energy Nuclear Astrophysics at Tandem Accelerator Mass Spectrometer (TAMS) Laboratory in Johannesburg from 26-27 November 2023. There has been many years of  nuclear investigations pursued at the EN Tandem Accelerator since the commissioning of the Tandem in 1973 (as part of the Schonland Institute) and the subsequent transfer of the Institute to the NRF in 2005 through running of the laboratory as a National Facility by iThemba LABS.

This workshop aims to bring together senior researchers and the young generation of nuclear physicists, from both experimental and theoretical nuclear physics background, to share ideas in the development  of new research initiatives that can span across a wide range of topics in the area of low-energy nuclear astrophysics, using the available C-Line at the TAMS and the new Tandetron facilities at iThemba LABS. In addition, the prospects for exploring low-energy nuclear astrophysics with the existing facilities and formulating a strategy for future theoretical and experimental efforts in this field, to foster collaborations and pave the path for new developments and upgrades of C-Line at TAMS will be discussed.
