The African Nuclear Physics School 2025 (ANPS 2025) will take place on 22 and 23 November 2025 at the iThemba Laboratory for Accelerator Based Sciences. The ANPS 2025 is intended for MSc and PhD students working in Nuclear Physics and aims to provide lectures and practical sessions to complement the content covered during the ANPC 2025.
The ANPS will cover the following topics:
- A Primer on Nuclear Astrophysics by Prof Christian Iliadis (University of North Carolina/TUNL)
- A Primer on Symmetries and Nuclear Structure by Dr Stephan Malbrunot-Ettenauer (TRIUMF)
- An Introduction to Nuclear Models by Prof Peter von Neumann-Cosel (TU Darmstadt)
- An Introduction to the Tandetron and Applications by Dr Sotirios Charisopoulos (IAEA)
- An Introduction to the TALYS Nuclear Reaction Code by Prof Andrea Richard (Ohio University)
On 23 November 2025, school participants will get an opportunity to participate in a nuclear physics experiment at the iThemba LABS Tandetron Facility. The experiment will be led by Dr Kgashane Malatji (Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory).
The ANPS is sponsored by and co-organised by the Southern African Institute of Nuclear Technology and Sciences (SAINTS) at iThemba LABS.
There are three options available for registration for the ANPS 2025:
- Registration for the school, which includes meals and dormitory-style basic accommodation from 21 - 23 November 2025 at a cost of R1000.00 (€50 or $58 if a foreign currency is required)
- Registration for the school (excluding accommodation but including lunch) at a cost of R500.00 (€25 or $30 if a foreign currency is required)
- Registration for the school as well as dormitory-style basic accommodation for the duration of the school AND the conference at a rate of R5400.00 (€265 or $312 if a foreign currency is required) (including meals) from 21 - 29 November 2025.
Please note that the accommodation option is limited and there is a 30 bed capacity. Kindly register separately for the ANPS 2025 as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
