Description

This instrumentation school is intended for MSc and PhD students in the areas of particle, nuclear and medical physics. The school will take place at iThemba LABS in the Western Cape.

The school will comprise of lectures and sessions with hands on experiments led by international instructors.

The school is sponsored by the European lab CERN, the German lab DESY,  the French lab IJCLAB and the NRF.

Lectures will take place at the Main Auditorium

First exercise, Characterisation of Silicon Pixel Sensors, will be run for all students at the same time at Computer Room J15 ground floor on Friday afternoon

As of Monday, five exercises will be running in parallel:

Resolution of a silicon pixel detector - Computer Room J15 ground floor

Data Acquisition - J Block room 16 ​(J16) ground floor

Micro pattern gas detector - Computer Room J15 ground floor

Cloud chamber  - J Block (Office 23) 1st floor

Calorimetry Silicon Tungsten exercise - J Block Library board room 2nd floor
